According to Helen Harvatt, head of this research from Loma Lynda University of California (LLU), if the American people start eating beans instead of beef, they will realize this immediately. America will achieve 50 to 75 percent of the goal of reducing greenhouse gases for 2020. For this, they will not need to set new standards on vehicle or manufacturing sectors.
Researchers have long been referring to changes in dietary patterns for greenhouse gases reduction. In this 10-page study paper published in the latest issue of ‘Climate Change’, researchers have said that they conducted a general analysis of calories and proteins for the change in the emission of greenhouse gases for beans in the diet instead of beef.
It has been said in the report that this method has not been recognized as an alternative to climate policy. But by using beans instead of beef, the risk of climate change can be greatly reduced. There are also other environmental benefits.
Researchers say that in the form of diet, in the production of bean (beans, peas) emit 40 times less of greenhouse gases than animal.
According to the researchers, “our conclusions show that the production of foods obtained from plants in place of beef can play an important role in reducing the risk of climate change.”
